POKEYS are very rare... very hard to obtain/buy.. But there is so many stereo dedicated productions, i wanted my device to play them :-) ..
and I WANTED NOW :-)
So, we met again (lotharek and AcidMaker) and after many hours of discussions, we are happy to intruduce: ACID STEREO upgrade for all ATARI 8bit systems !
Upgrade that utilizes orginal POKEY and adds extra stuff coded inside fpga. Perfect marriage of old school and modern electronics...as THIS IS THE WAY :-)
Main features:
- device utilizes orginal POKEY CHIP for sio routine, pots, keyboard
- 4 pokeys / 4 covox inside fpga
- Acid Stereo uses dedicated DAC CHIP - 32-bit, 384 kHz sound output
- We do proper audio sources mixing! PBI audio and SIO audio are converted from analog signal to digital ones by two ADC, sent to fpga, mixed again and sent to output DAC
- PCB 2 layers, slightly bigger than orginal POKEY
- Orginal mono productions will be played stereo with channels interpolations in 2 modes :-)
- Stereo productions will sound exactly as they should, with only one diffrence: no humming in speakers from ATARI
OUTPUTS:
- AL - audio left
- GND - ground
- AR - audio right
INPUTS:
- A4 - addres line (present in many places inside atari - example CPU pin 13) - ONLY AND ONE WIRE TO BE CONNECTED for basic fucntionality
- Bell - gtia sound - GTIA pin 15
- Dxx - address page for COVOX // D6xx or D7xx - ls138//
- Di2,Di1 - digital inputs /// soon/ more//
- SIO - sio audio input /// soon/ more//
- PBI - pbi audio input /// soon/ more//
Be carefull !
- ACID STEREO is very dangerous for You ;-) Handle with care!
- Risk of ACID BURNS and being impressed for many hours !
and now SERIOUS WARNINGS:
- pcb thickness is approx 1mm
- pin 31 is intentionally not connected ! PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK it is isolated from ATARI PCB
